A virtual tour in the Amazigh village of Takrouna

Our Goal

Takrouna360 is not just about safeguarding the village, its streets, panoramas and vernacular architecture, but also about using the latest technologies to bring together in a single project a cultural portfolio emblematic of the identity of Takrouna, a veritable cultural kaleidoscope of Tunisia.

In this cultural and structural decline, this is a response to the loss of Amazigh heritage. Combining technological innovation with community collaboration, the project endeavors to construct a digital sanctuary that preserves and shares this cultural gem on a global scale.

What Makes the Takrouna Village Special?

A physical construction in three ‘floors,’ three plateaux, corresponding to three successive historical periods, around three ‘tribes’: the Andalusians in the highest part, then Libyan tribes in the central part, and finally in the lower western part, tribes from Morocco, around the descendants of the Guiga Family.

Details about the project

Using state-of-the-art Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, the project will create an interactive and immersive virtual tour of Takrouna.

This tour will allow users to navigate the narrow streets and places of the village, visit historical landmarks, and experience the village’s charm from anywhere in the world.

The virtual tour will serve as an educational resource, accessible to schools, researchers, and enthusiasts worldwide.

By providing insights into Takrouna’s history, customs, and challenges, the project aims to raise awareness about the importance of cultural preservation in the digital age.

Testimony of the only remaining family living in old Takrouna

In the quaint village of Takrouna, nestled in the heart of Tunisia, stands the testimony of resilience and determination: the last remaining family.

Despite immense pressure to vacate, this steadfast family refused to abandon their ancestral home. Their unwavering spirit led them to a significant legal victory, triumphing over the state in court to secure their right to stay. Living a simple life, they face daily struggles, yet their story is a powerful reminder of the importance of defending one’s roots against all odds.
